THE RESULTS

PROJECT: 7TH GEAR

Popular Comedian, author, and multimedia artist Mr John Robertson, most commonly known for his satirical stand up comedy and famous Dark Room. Entirely lost for words while looking at Project: 7th Gear

We now have a great looking laptop that doesn't just look fast, IT IS FAST, and additionally loaded with improved features! The tracker pad has had a facelift, as have the majority of the laptops chassis components, and the spongy sometimes unresponsive mouse buttons now feel solid giving a good positive click with every press.

We've said good bye to the DVD drive and the micro sub woofer to make room for the cooling system both of which won't be missed. The heat pipe cooling system has been replaced with a water cooling system that has been built from the ground up to work with every specifically selected component involved right down to the custom cooling fluid. Running temperatures even after the performance increase and overclock have seen notable improvements. With the GPU seeing an improvement of 5°C, and the CPU an impressive 11°C! Ambient fan noise has also seen notable improvements with the first hour or so of typical use being virtually void of fan noise, and an impressive reduction of 13dB even during max load after 2 hours upwards!¹

Over all speed and performance has been vastly improved. This was already a fairly fast laptop to start with, especially for something off the shelf. However the addition of Western Digital's WD Blue and 3D NAND drives, combined with my performance improvements, and Microsoft's Windows 10 makes you feel like your laptop detected your approach and decided to boot almost before you pressed the power button. Boot up is pretty much instant, and there is enough storage space for any number of activities. The improvements can be noted across the board during real world usage such as video editing, photo editing, and during game play.

Power delivery has seen some significant changes in both battery and mains supply. The original battery was a great battery as far as laptops go, and took a lot more abuse than most high-street laptop brands during the research and development phase, proving to be significantly stable and safe. However the role of the battery in this project has now changed acting more like an integrated UPS, with both battery and power supply being improved to match the power demands of the performance upgrades. The new battery and power supply keep everything running reliably at optimal levels while still giving you enough up time to check documents and send a few emails in those time critical situations.²

Ultimately though, aside from the improved performance and reliability, this is something that is truly unique, and speaks with individuality in a world filled with mass produced clones.
